Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy
An ultrasound-guided breast biopsy is a minimally invasive, highly accurate method used to obtain small samples of breast tissue for evaluation. Offered at our Scottsdale Breast Center.
Ultrasound does not involve the use of X-rays and allows the Radiologist (a board-certified MD) to remove these samples quickly and accurately. The tissue will be sent for evaluation by a Pathologist and results are generally available within a few business days.
Prepare for Your Visit
It is recommended that you discontinue the use of any Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Aspirin, fish oil or Vitamin E for five to seven days before your biopsy. If you are taking any prescription medications that affect your blood clotting abilities such as Plavix or Coumadin, please contact your physician to obtain permission to hold these medications for three to five days prior to your biopsy.
Wear comfortable clothing; only the top portion will need to be removed. A sports type bra is helpful to wear for the first 24 hours for your comfort. You should eat a light meal before your procedure.
